We're told Barack Obama's history and character are somehow off-limits. But personal history makes character, and the character of the President of the United States is something we have a right to be interested in. In Part 1 of this meticulously researched and and sourced series, Bill examines both the Dunhams and the Obamas -- each steeped in Marxism and anti-Americansm and each a long, long way away from mainstream American culture. |

Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE) Delivers Weekly GOP Address On Small Businesses
In the Weekly Republican Address, Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska explains, ""The idea of government creating jobs; well, it simply misses the point entirely. That's just not how we get our economic engine firing on all cylinders. Job creation in this country doesn't start with government; it starts with our businesses, especially our small businesses. Small businesses create between 60 and 80 percent of all new jobs, according to the Small Business Administration." Sen. Johanns points out that the policies of the Obama administration have made it more difficult for small businesses to create jobs, such as the 1099 tax reporting mandate included in the Democrats' health care law. He says, "Job creators found themselves saddled with a mountain of costly new paperwork due to this part of the health care law. Repealing it opened the door to hiring by closing the door on new accounting red tape that businesses would have faced. Since then, I've heard directly from small business owners, thanking us for removing this stumbling block to growth, for saving them time and money, and for getting big government out of the way of small business." "1099 repeal was a big victory for our small businesses and our economy, but there's so much more to do," Sen. Johanns says. "The red tape and the bureaucracy continue to pile up from this Administration. . . . [President Obama's] his Administration has proposed or enacted more than 250 regulations amounting to more than $24 billion dollars in regulatory costs. And again, that's just since January." He concludes, "It is time to change the culture in Washington. We can't tie up small businesses in needless red tape and regulations and then expect them to create jobs and boost the economy. The federal government can't create jobs; we must help shape an economic environment conducive to job creation. It's our task to unshackle job creators from regulations and mandates, to enable them to grow, to flourish. My Republican colleagues and I will continue to push for a scaled back government that allows the enterprising American spirit to create a prosperous economy that benefits everyone. That means reining in spending, reducing the deficit, eliminating red tape that holds businesses back." |

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) Delivers Weekly GOP Address On The Debt Crisis
In the Weekly Republican Address, Sen. Tom Coburn, MD, of Oklahoma discusses the historic spending cuts Republicans passed this week and the problems with President Obama's approach to spending and debt. Sen. Coburn says, "This was a historic week in Washington. For the first time in more than 15 years, Congress, under the leadership of House Republicans, is making significant spending cuts. While these cuts aren't nearly enough, the American people should be encouraged. You have fundamentally changed the debate in Washington. Instead of increasing spending, Congress is now cutting spending. That is a monumental shift for Washington." In response to President Obama's speech, Sen. Coburn says, "Unfortunately, the president failed to put a serious proposal on the table... Entitlement spending alone accounts for more than 80 percent of our long-term debt burden but the president's plan exempts these programs from reform. By pretending that Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security are sound financially when they are not, the president is jeopardizing the benefits for the very Americans he says he wants to protect. He also proposed expanding his failed health care law that will cost Americans now over $2.6 trillion between now and the next 10 years. That makes our debt problem much more difficult to solve. The president wants to strengthen a board of unaccountable Medical Czars and give them more power to impose price controls and ration care." In contrast, Sen. Coburn points out, "House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, who seemed to be the real target of the president's speech, has charted a different course. His plan, which saves $6.2 trillion over ten years, outlines a path to prosperity, not austerity. He would save Medicare by giving all beneficiaries, beginning with those now under 55, access to high-quality health plans, similar to the plans that members of Congress enjoy. Also under Mr. Ryan's plan, Medicaid's safety net for the poorest patients would be strengthened by transitioning to block grants that empower states to provide care." |

House Republicans are committed to cutting spending and helping grow our economy for better job creation in America. The President's speech on the deficit was more about his campaign than creating jobs and ending reckless government spending. It's time for true leadership to save our future generations from crippling debt. |

Tax Day (April 18) is fast approaching, which means anxiety and night sweats for about 99 percent of taxpayers. And bitching and moaning by those at the top of the income pyramid about how they aren't forced to pay more in taxes. Secretary of State and cattle-futures queen Hillary Clinton, super-investor Warren Buffett, and best-selling author Stephen King have all recently carped about how rich folks like them should be paying more in taxes. King recently told a Florida rally, "As a rich person, I'm paying 28 percent in taxes. What I want to ask you is, Why am I not paying 50?" Such rhetorical questions miss the point when it comes to the country's balance sheet. The U.S. doesn't have a revenue problem or a tax-rate problem. We've got a spending problem. Since 1950, revenue from all sources has averaged around 18 percent of Gross Domestic Product, despite top tax rates that have fluctuated from over 90 percent to the high 20-percent range. So despite all efforts to jack up revenue (or reduce it), that's what the government can expect to work with. Yet spending has averaged about 20 percent of GDP - and is currently at a whopping 25 percent of GDP, a figure not seen since World War II. President Obama's budget plan forecasts spending at 23 percent of GDP over the next decade while Rep. Paul Ryan's GOP plan calls for 20.5 percent. There's your deficit right there, folks. But King, Clinton, and Buffett can always pay more in taxes to retire federal debt held by the public. Just go to http://treasurydirect.gov and make a voluntary donation to reduce the national debt held by the public. So far in calender 2011, Treasury has pulled in an $125,000! Which means there's only about $8.99 trillion to go. Written and produced by Meredith Bragg and Nick Gillespie. About 2 minutes. |
